In a blind test that evaluated six of the best-selling sport touring tyres on the market, METZELER ROADTEC™ 01 SE is named as the best choice for consumers, with particularly high scores in steering and confidence categories

Munich (Germany), 27th April 2020 – The new METZELER ROADTEC™ 01 SE is the winner of the comparative test dedicated to sport touring tyres made by the authoritative British motorcycle magazine RiDE, confirming itself as the new segment reference on its market debut.

The ROADTEC™ 01 SE radial range, in addition to consolidating high performance in the wet from low temperatures offered by ROADTEC™ 01, has also been developed to enhance the sporty characteristics of grip and agility required by those who ride sport, naked and sport touring bikes; and exactly these characteristics made the difference in the test organized by RiDE. In particular, the bi-compound METZELER technology applied to the rear tire is combined with a sportier tread pattern design.

The British publication compared ROADTEC™ 01 SE with five rival products currently on the market and declared the product of the ‘blue elephant’ brand the clear winner of the comparison. The challenging twenty-two mile route nominated for the test included an alternation of motorway sections, main roads with flowing corners, secondary roads with poor surfaces and an urban section with mixed surfaces, in order to replicate exhaustively the characteristic usage of a touring motorcycle. . One of the most representative sport tourers of the segment, the iconic BMW R1250RS equipped with tyres in the sizes 120/70-17 and 180/55-17, was the designated tool used to make the comparison. The blind test method used meant that RiDE’s expert testers were not aware of which product they had tested at the time of the evaluation and assigned a score from 1 to 10, in five different categories: steering, confidence, stability, ride quality and feel.

At the end of the severe comparison, METZELER ROADTEC™ 01 SE was the absolute winner, obtaining the highest final score of 91 points out of a maximum of 100 and achieved RiDE magazine’s recommendation as “Best Purchase”. ROADTEC™ 01 SE was also the only tyre to receive the maximum score of 10 points out of 10, from at least one of the two testers, in three categories out of five – steering, stability and confidence.
In fact, particularly praised was the confidence that ROADTEC™ 01 SE is able to give the motorcyclist also at high speeds, thanks to the level of grip available even at low temperatures, and the light and precise steering felt from slow to fast corners.
